Dead Man Switch 1.4 is here with many new features: visual emails composer, advanced security settings, improved user interface, and more.
Following the previous release of version 1.3 less than two months ago, Dead Man Switch 1.4 is available to download for all licensed users. As usually, a major update means a truckload of new features and exciting improvements, so let’s take a look at the most important one:
Added: visual HTML editor to compose emails;
Dead Man Switch fully supports HTML emails since its first version, but this update uses built-in CKEditor 5 to compose HTML emails. In other words, users no longer need to embed HTML tags manually; visual composer does it all. As a result, users can now format different paragraphs, easily insert bulleted and numbered lists, quotes, tables, and even images or videos into their after-death emails. Needless to say, all previously stored messages are fully compatible with new editor, which means users don’t need to re-format them after upgrade. But that’s just a beginning… Since Dead Man Switch contains the most private and sensitive information in user’s life, version 1.4 introduces even more security enhancements:
Added: Security Settings section;
Added: option to hide administration dashboard from all hosts not included in whitelist;
From now on, users not only can enable automatic banning after X number of failed logins, but can also completely hide administration dashboard of their Dead Man Switch installation. If whitelisted access is enabled using the Software Settings> Security Settings section, Dead Man Switch will allow access to administration dashboard from whitelisted IPs only. Hence, if someone tries to access any part of administration dashboard and his IP is not whitelisted, he will see a blank page. This option is slightly different from Allowed Login IP(s) option in My Profile section because it completely blocks access to all parts of administration dashboard (including login/lost password sections), while Allowed Login IP(s) option allows access to login section, so anyone can try to login (but login will only be accepted if IP is allowed). That is to say, Whitelisted Access Only option prevents 3rd parties from even accessing login section, making it virtually impossible to even start hacking system.
Further improvements continue here: custom date ranges for verification and system reports, improved user interface, optimized code, and more…
